Wining and Dining > Restaurants, Cafes and Bars
At Noir, we take the best bits of Southern French bistros and translate them into the quality Melbourne dining landscape.
Open since 2011; we celebrate the colours, textures and robust flavours of French cooking and these have been plated up by our chef Peter Roddy who owns Noir with his wife, Ebony Vagg.
Roddy and Vagg, driven to bring unpretentious, quality and joyful dining to Richmond, found their place in a cosy venue on Richmond’s Swan Street and set about building a strong community of like-minded customers who share a love of all things Gallic.
The dining room is dominated by a large blackboard - where they feature their shared tasting menu - and enhanced with fresh flowers, wooden or marble tables, hues of honey and copper and warm lighting.
Everything on the menu is handmade by us - except for the bread, from our great mate Matt Forbes of Cobb Lane - and we’re great believers in supporting our local Victorian and Australian producers.
Dishes like our spanner crab tortellini with caviar sauce or crisp breast and confit leg of dry aged duck never leave the menu - our regulars would protest (!) and with these signature dishes, we are always evolving and innovating our approach to our menu.
Add a succinct and focused drinks offering with around 100 listings of wines, French spirits, craft brews and solid non-alcoholic choices, Noir is your answer to the question, where’s the best French dining in Melbourne.
