Established in 2010, The Magicians Cabaret is an authentic Parisian cabaret, bar venue inspired by the French bohemian writers and artists called Les Hydropathes (“those who are afraid of water – so they drink only wine”) of the original Parisian cabarets of the 1800s
With its old world charm and decor, its configuration consists of a classic theatre box office, an intimate Parisian dinner theatre room (Le Cabaret Room), with a charming nineteenth century proscenium arch stage featuring a beautiful French theatrical ruched curtain and an intimate underground style bar (The Secret Top Hat Bar).
Since its creation, every Saturday night play its resident Parisian cabaret dinner show which encompasses a unique fusion of poetry, storytelling, philosophy, song, dance and magic by a cast of actors, chanteuses and dancers accompanying the magician.
The cabaret dinner shows all feature the iconic Parisian showgirl adorned in stunning show girl costumes which in 2018 were photographed by acclaimed photographer Fabrizio Lipari ( Vohue, Marie Claire). With a cast singers, both male and female dancers the shows are choreographed by James Taylor (Royal Ballet of London). Created, written and directed by renowned cabaret producer James Karp they are often described as Sydney’s own mini Moulin Rouge.
Television appearances have included Channel Seven’s The Morning Show, Channel Nine’s The Today Show, Channel Nines’ Sunrise and French media CCTV and TV5 Monde.
The programming also consists of cabaret shows, live music bar nights and magic parlour shows which play on other nights of the week and seasonally.
As the French culture enjoys savouring the good things in life, the secret Bar with its fine selection of classic French cocktails and wine also lends itself to the cultural experience of the Parisian cabaret. Pre-dinner / show drinks (“apero”) is a must to fully immerse oneself in the Parisian cabaret experience.
The setting of the cabaret room and secret top hat bar is so intriguing and movie like it has seen Warner Bros, Sydney Weekender, Disney (with Australian Actor Jackson Gallagher of Home and Away) FOX Sports Australia (A-League Finals series “Where the Magic Happens”) and international magician Shin Lim (2018 winner of America’s Got Talent) to name but a few, film at The Magicians Cabaret.
2019 saw Oscar winning cinematographer Dion Beebie (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, Nine) film the feature movie “I am Woman” in this hidden gem describing it as “enchanting”.
The credits keep coming with USA, celebrity magazine Cliché, reviewed The Magicians Cabaret as the “best three things to do in Sydney” and Channel 7 The Morning Show described it as “best in the biz”
Opening in 2012, acclaimed resident dinner and show La Fortuna cabaret dinner show and has amassed over 500 performances. USA celebrity magazine “Cliché” described La Fortuna as “simply amazing, unpredictable, and enchanting”.
Having played at the annual Bastille French Festival (2015-2018) and featured on French TV, Cabaret La Belle Rose opened in 2019 as a dinner and show experience becoming the third resident cabaret dinner show with Channel 9 The Today show describing the show as “simply beautiful” and “delivers both a bundle of emotions and a mesmerising night out” wrote Australian theatre publication Stage Whispers.
